Naval Science

Naval Science :-

The classification scheme for naval science was originally devised in 1904 by S. C. Stuntz under the direction of Chief Classifier Charles Mattel (CCCM).The organization of the schedules for material relating to the Navals of the world paralleled in general that for military forces in the classification and index of the Military Information Division in the Adjutant General's Office in the War Department. The order of the publications of the British Hydrographic Office served as a basis for the arrangement of sailing directions and similar guides in Subclass VK (Navigation, Merchant Marine, Shipping).

Colon Classification (Naval Science) :-

The scheme as finally printed in 1910 did not represent any shelving of works at the Library of Congress. It was not untir and the  second edition was brought out in 1953 that the naval materials collection of the Library conformed completely to the printed of the schedule. This third edition is essentially an enlargement of the previous one to include additions and changes made as required the through March 1973 to accommodate as on continuing acquisition of material. While it thus reflects certain new technologies such as fleet ballistic missile systems and atomic ships and updates terminology in the captions, it has not undergone any major rearrangement.
